How does DepiCool's teeth whitening treatment work?
We use a process which combines light with a photoreactive gel which produces a lightening effect on the teeth
Cosmetic teeth whitening
Dental teeth whitening is a cosmetic treatment which reduces the colouration of the teeth leaving them whiter, more brilliant and healthy, in addition to removing the unattractive effects of stains or colouration.
Generally, teeth whitening techniques are based on oxidation: oxygen ions from whitening products penetrate into the teeth, breaking apart long chained molecules which are responsible for colouration and lightening the overall colouration.
The active component in this is process is usually Hydrogen Peroxide. Sometimes other compounds are used, such as Carbamide Peroxide, which break down in the process and release Hydrogen Peroxide.
Teeth whitening at DepiCool
We use an exclusive state-of-the-art system for this process. A special photoreactive whitening gel is applied to the teeth, which are then exposed to a diode (LED) lamp which effectively accelerates the whitening process in a safe way. After an hour it is normal to see immediate results!
This system means we can use a concentration of Hydrogen Peroxide which is much lower than with a traditional whitening process. This minimises the hypersensibility of the teeth which is a normal temporary side-effect of such a treatment.
In addition to the treatment in a DepiCool centre, we provide a post-treatment plan to follow in order to improve the results and make the effects of the treatment last longer. This plan includes a two week course of Carbamide Peroxide treatment which can be simply and straightforwardly applied at home.
The Treatment
It is very important to have your teeth perfectly clean before starting the treatment. Ideally you should get them cleaned by a dentist, if this is not possible then they should be thoroughly brushed before treatment.
Treatment takes approximately one hour. It consists of three sessions of 10 minutes. For each session, your teeth are covered with a photoreactive whitening gel and then exposed to a diode (LED) lamp.
For an optimal and longer lasting result, we offer a two week course of treatment you can apply at home. This is a simple procedure where you apply a Carbamide Peroxide product to the teeth following instructions from your consultant. We provide a quantity of treatment product which is normally suffient for two weeks, but this can vary from person to person.
